What is Desmodium?
Desmodium is a genus in the flowering plant family Fabaceae. It is a perennial plant with many branches, desmodium flowers are slightly purple colours. This climbing herbaceous plant may grow up to 50cm. Its flower heads are composed of slightly purple flowers surrounded by trifoliate leaves.
Traditionally used by healers in equatorial Africa as remedy against jaundice and constipation.
In Cameroon, Desmodium is primarily used to treat liver disorders. In Ghana is famous as solution for respiratory allergies and skin problems (eczema). In Rwanda, its cousin Desmodium repandum is also used to treat anorexia problems. In France it had a dramatic recovery in 1973. A 18 years old girl, with severe viral hepatitis could recover thanks to Desmodium: jaundice, nausea and headache had disappeared, her transaminases reduced from 700 to 36.
In a very short time, Desmodium has become the most effective natural treatment to fight against aggressions suffered by the liver, whether viral or chemical, in particular following an alcoholic or drug intoxication.
